Become A Personal Trainer
How to become a Personal Trainer
Tips how to become a Personal Trainer. It is quite obvious that during the last few years people have become more aware of the need to devote time and effort to their physical wellbeing and it is impossible to do that without exercising. It should not come as a surprise that personal trainer is the profession of the future, but it is also a profession that should not be taken so lightly. Being a personal trainer is much more than telling people how to exercise – it is mentoring, teaching, motivating and truly connecting with clients in order to realize what drives them to move forward and how to use it. There are things fitness industry requires both in and outside the gym, every person striving to be a successful personal trainer should know about. Here are some tips on how to be the best trainer you can be.
Give a Good Example
It is not a strict rule that a trainer should have the body the clients want to have, but it certainly does help. When the clients are looking for a person to give their money to in order to become better selves, they expect that person to be that better version of themselves. So, follow all the guidelines you would give to your clients about minding their diet and training hard. That, however, does not mean you have to look perfect and have no flaws. Fitness is more of a science than hard work, but to say it simply: it is easier to motivate others if you can motivate yourself.
Create a Personalized Approach
Not every client is the same, physically or mentally. Being aware of that is a trait of a good personal trainer. Never be a strictly cardio guy or weightlifting spokesman. Consult with the client about its aspirations, problems and difficulties, and build a workout program together based on all those facts. It is also important to get to know your client on a personal level and understand what drives him/her and how to make his/her path to fitness much easier. Mold your training methods and the equipment you use based on the needs of your client, not vice versa.
As a trainer, you will need not only to explain with words but also show with deeds how some exercise should look like, especially if your client is a gym newbie. Always be there when your client has certain questions and be full of understanding no matter how ridiculous these questions might look to you. It would be useful to always have gym clothes on when you need to demonstrate how some exercise is done properly.
Be a Lifelong Learner
Fitness is, like other sciences, an area that keeps on evolving and we are constantly learning new things about methods and impacts of exercising. It is important to constantly gather new knowledge that could help your clients and put you on the top of your branch. Visit seminars, webinars, fitness conventions and read expert literature to help you design the best programs for your clients. It is also important to have valuable information about fitness supplements and nutrition in order to provide a full service.
Your clients do not want to be sheer numbers. On the contrary, they need you to know them in order to build a better relationship and thus a better quality of their fitness program.
Ask them about their families, their goals in life, their careers, etc. The trust you can build there not only leads to a long-term client-trainer relationship, but also to a word of mouth marketing, which will bring you a lot of new clients.
Recognize Your Strengths
As already mentioned to become a personal trainer might be the profession of the future, and more and more people are deciding for the career in fitness. In that crowd, it is highly important to differentiate yourself. You must be aware of your strengths as a trainer and use them to your advantage. Some professionals, for instance, prefer working with athletes, while others prefer middle-aged people; certain trainers focus on bodybuilding, others on Pilates, etc.
In the end, it is important to give your best and to expect your clients to give their best, in return. Never stop evolving as a trainer, and try to build a great relationship with your clients.
